What happened to the EMPATHY series?

On where it's been and where it's headed next.

Current Status

As of December 2024, the EMPATHY sci-fi saga is out of print, with Imminent Dawn and Mourning Dove being de-listed by their original publisher at my request.

I’m grateful to NineStar Press for the opportunity they were willing to give this series when I initially signed with them in 2018, and I’m excited about what this reversion of rights means for the series going forward.

History of EMPATHY

What started as a short story I wrote in the early 2010s would, over the course of the coming years, grow into a multi-perspective novel-length manuscript titled Imminent Dawn. Here are the highlights of its progression thereafter.

2018

• Imminent Dawn is brought aboard for publication with NineStar Press.

2019

• Mourning Dove, the sequel to Imminent Dawn, is similarly offered a publishing contract with NineStar.

• Imminent Dawn and Mourning Dove are published in January and April, respectively.

• Event Horizon, the third book in the series, is drafted and likewise offered a contract for publication.

2020

• After considering the best way to present the series going forward, I ask that Event Horizon’s March 2020 release be postponed indefinitely.

• Imminent Dawn is named as a finalist in the International Book Awards by American Book Fest.

2024

• At my request, NineStar Press reverts to me the rights to the first three books in the EMPATHY series.

• I begin to rewrite Imminent Dawn to account for changes in the current technological landscape as well as the evolution of my approach to storytelling.

What Comes Next

I’m determined to see through the rewrite of Imminent Dawn before I progress to doing the same with Mourning Dove and Event Horizon.

It is my intention to re-release the first two books of the series in conjunction with Event Horizon in 2026.

Bear in mind, this will require revisiting and reworking hundreds of thousands of words, and it is my aim to ensure that the subsequent books in the series are also outlined in full before the first three books are published once again.
